Picscout
Hi! I wonder if anyone uses PicScout service (the one used by Getty and Corbis) for their personal collection and can share positive results? By positive results I mean not only found, but also resolved infringements.
Thank you!

Yes, registries are potentially useful for preventing work becoming orphaned if they have been developed to interoperate with others in a delegated search (ie search one = search all, much like the DNS system for internet domains). There is no point in having dozens or hundreds of registries all independent from one another and needing to be searched separately, they're little better than scam sites.
Work on interoperable registries has been going on for 6 or 7 years to my knowledge, led by the PLUS! coalition. They seem to be doing everything right technologically and it's a non-profit initiative despite inclusion of industry monster Adobe. PLUS! as a whole have adopted Picscout.
But useful as this undoubtedly is, there is a big time and cost overhead. If you have many thousands of photos from years of work, it's going to be a major effort.
There's also the reality that there are billions of online images that will never be registered. And there is the danger of copyright law changing to effectively require registration to safeguard the exclusive rights of the copyright owner to control his work. The US tried this with OWA2008. Such a two-tier system contradicts international IP law, specifically the automatic and "without formality" requirements of the Berne Convention Article 5.

There is a free service called C-Registry geared towards individual creators. They have some cool technology for tracking images online and finding image creators. It's worth a look, http://www.c-registry.us/.
Now Photoshelter and PicScout have partnered to offer some of PicScout service

From what I understand Picscout is far too expensive for individuals to use, being pitched at large scale use by corporates.
