Image Loft
Came across this site today http://www.imageloft.co.uk/ seems they are offering free images to all journalists.

Why would this qualify as a copyright alert? Image Loft appear to be sourcing PR/marketing images from companies and providing distribution with or without press releases. To that extent they are only doing what ad and PR agencies normally do for themselves by distributing press kits about products and businesses they are hired to promote. Image Loft presumably hopes to increase their reach by adding an on-request centralised resource.
For PR's this will seem a good thing, but the images they supply are actually of a very narrow range, as you'd expect from product promo pics. They are of very limited illustrative use, likely only to appeal to consumer journalists who'd use press kit photos anyhow. It will save lazy journos from having to chase down PR contacts for some stuff, I expect.
I am generously assuming the photos they distribute are properly licensed for PR distribution and appropriate editorial use, unless you know different...
I will move this topic to the 'general' forum unless you want to persuade me why it should be here, which is really meant for discussion of copyright grabbing contracts and suchlike unprincipled opportunism.
