calcoastnews.com does not respect copyrights for photographs

Greetings All,

This is more of a heads up than anything else.

I work for two weekly newspapers in San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara counties as a staff photographer.

Recently it was noticed on this website via this story:

http://calcoastnews.com/2010/05/arroyo-grande-athletes-face-burglary-cha...

That one of the images I had taken for the New Times San Luis Obispo was being used as an illustration to their story.

Our story here:

My bosses and owners sent an email to the editor of the site requesting nicely that they take it down or replace it and I quote here:

"Not sure how your site updater came about the image but I know that it pops up in Google searches. Somehow someone figured it to be a copyright free image for some reason. Obviously, it isn't. So, if you could please let them know about that and have them replace it or taken down soon, I'd appreciate it. "

Then this news agency replied with this article:

This is just a classic example of lack of integrity, honesty, and respect yet with the twist that they claim to be an honest and hard working news agency.

 Times are changing I guess.

Just a heads up for all you photographers out there.

By the way, my images have been misapproriated in the past by other news agencies and when the agency who did the deed was contacted, they immediately rectified the situation without complaint nor making a public issue of it.

Cheers,

*steve
