Stop43.org.uk is a new EPUK campaign site against the Digital Economy Bill provisions for orphan works licensing (OWL) and extended collective licensing (ECL) as currently specified. Because Government has failed to address photographers' concerns and is trying to rush this legislation through Parliament without the opportunity for proper debate or amendments to clause 43 (formerly S42), getting S43 removed from the Bill is necessary.

We want to get a viral campaign going which graphically illustrates the impact S43, OWL an ECL will have on everyone: photographer, member of the public, business, politician, photo user. We want the virals we've created so far

to be distributed far and wide to Facebook, Twitter, Flickr groups, MPs, the media, everyone useful you can think of. We want you to create your own virals and distribute them, too. We suggest you don't make "political" images: politicans are used to that. Instead, think more of innocent pictures being used in ways that their owners, or people in them, hadn't thought of and probably wouldn't like. Politicians, bureaucrats, media people, businesspeople and "good causes" make good subjects.

There are banners available to comp onto your images at

And the joint letter we all want is on its way.
